On-Campus Pregnant and Parenting Resources
Childcare Support
ECU offers supportive childcare options to help eligible student parents balance their academic and parenting responsibilities.
The D.O.C.C. (Drop Off Child Care) program provides short-term, on-campus childcare for currently enrolled ECU students, offering a safe and engaging environment for children.
The COMPASS program (Childcare On-Campus: Maximizing Parents’ Academic Support and Success) is designed to provide support for student parents at ECU. Participants will be eligible for childcare slots in the Nancy W. Darden Child Development Center, reduced fee drop-in childcare, and services like parenting education to enhance academic success.
Lactation Support at ECU
ECU is committed to supporting the health and well-being of parenting students, faculty, and staff. Lactation rooms are available across campus to provide a private, comfortable space for nursing and pumping.
You can explore a campus map of lactation room locations here, and learn more about available lactation room amenities and accommodations here.
Joyner Library – Family Room
Looking for a family-friendly study space on campus? ECU’s Joyner Library now offers a dedicated Family Room designed to support students who are parents and caregivers. This space provides a welcoming environment where you can study while your little ones play safely nearby.
Pantries
The Lil’ Pirate Pantry located in Umstead Hall, Room 125, supports enrolled student parents at ECU by providing essential childcare items and basic needs to help balance academics and parenting. The pantry offers access to diapers, wipes and other family necessities to reduce non-academic barriers and promote student success.
The mission of the Williams-Ross Purple Pantry is to decrease food insecurity among the students of East Carolina University and increase access to other personal care items. Since opening in the late spring of 2018, students have been able to collect their most needed food and hygiene items. Members of the ECU community dedicate their time, talent and treasures to create a sustainable resource on campus to combat food insecurity.
