Annual Remembrance & Brick Dedication Ceremony

Few events impact a campus community as deeply as the loss of a student. To remember and celebrate those who have passed, East Carolina University hosts an annual Remembrance and Brick Dedication Ceremony. This event honors currently enrolled students who have died during the previous academic year and provides an opportunity for family members and the campus community to celebrate their lives.

During the ceremony, families, friends, and university leaders come together to honor these students, who will forever be remembered as Eternal Pirates. Attendees are also introduced to the Student Memorial Garden, where engraved bricks commemorate the names and years of attendance of the deceased students.

The ceremony is open to everyone in the campus community and is organized each fall semester by the Office of the Dean of Students.

The 2025 Ceremony was held on Sunday, September 21, 2025, in the Student Memorial Garden.  Details for the next ceremony will be shared with the campus community in fall 2026.
